Abstract:
In this study, the mechanical properties of Al 6061 alloy, which is frequently used in the automotive and aviation industries, were improved by the multi-directional forging (MDF)method and its behavior was characterized. For this, 3, 6, 9, and 12 passes forging processes were carried out at 200 °C. For dynamic characterization Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar assembly was designed and built to analyze the mechanical behavior after MDF. As a result of the tests, it was determined that the yield, tensile, and hardness values of the Aluminium alloys forged with the MDF method increased up to a certain cycle, and the grain refinement was achieved. Finally dynamic and qua-static test results were compared.
Bio:
Burak Bahat received his B.Sc. degree in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering from Sakarya University in 2011. He is currently working toward an M.Sc. degree as a research assistant under the supervision of Professor Güney Güven Yapıcı in the Mechanical Engineering department within MEMFIS at Özyeğin University, Istanbul. His main research interests include the mechanical properties of light alloys processed by severe plastic deformation and the design and fabrication of impact-loading test setups.
